Описание: This book is intended as a textbook for a first-year PhD course in mathematics for economists and as a reference for graduate students in economics. It provides a self-contained, rigorous treatment of most of the concepts and techniques required to follow the standard first-year theory sequence in micro and macroeconomics.
Описание: Once called the "dismal science," economics now offers prescriptions for improving people`s happiness. In this book Richard Easterlin, the "father of happiness economics," draws on a half-century of his own research and that conducted by fellow economists and psychologists to answer in plain language questions like: Can happiness be measured?
This book is part of a series which makes available to English-speaking audiences the work of the individual Chinese economists who were the architects of China's economic reform. The series provides an inside view of China's economic reform, revealing the thinking of the reformers themselves, unlike many other books on China's economic reform which are written by outside observers.
Li Jiange (1949-) is one of the most notable and powerful economists holding office in China at present. He is currently the Vice-Chairman of the Central Huijin Investment Company, one of the most influential financial institutions in China. He is also a member of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference, and a Professor at the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences and other academic institutions. He has held many important positions in the state Research Office and the Department of Policies, Laws, and Regulations, and has been Director of the China Securities Regulatory Commission. His work has included major contributions to debates about maintaining financial stability, about achieving equitable income distribution, and about China's overall economic development.
The book is published in association with China Development Research Foundation, one of the leading economic and social think tanks in China, where many of the theoretical foundations and policy details of economic reform were formulated.

Описание: Normative analysis in economics usually aims at satisfying individuals` preferences, valuing economic freedom and viewing markets favourably. Behavioural research, however, shows that individuals` preferences are often unstable. Robert Sugden proposes a reformulation of normative economics compatible with psychology of choice.

Описание: Frowen from the time Shackle took up his first post-war academic appointment until his death in 1992. The correspondence, partly personal and partly professional, reveals a vital insight into Shackle both as a man and as an outstanding economist. The centenary of Shackle`s birth in 2003 seems an appropriate time for the publication of his letters.

Описание: The title of this book raises a provocative question that should make all economists think. Do economists have much influence on government policy, particularly over, say, five or ten years? In this splendid collection, some published as long ago as the 1930s, nine great economists consider these questions.

Описание: It’s difficult to overstate the impact of conservative economics on American life. The conservative thought of economists like Milton Friedman, James Buchanan, and Friedrick Hayek has provided the conceptual framework that undergirds nearly every aspect of current U.S. social-economic policy. Although a great deal has been written about the economic theories of these Nobel Prize-winning economists, this study is the first to examine the political theory that underlies conservative economics and its implications for public policy.
Long associated with the “Chicago” and “public choice” schools of thought, Friedman, Buchanan, Hayek, and others have consistently repudiated Keynesian principles. They have steadfastly opposed social welfare policies and regulation of private enterprise, championing instead the free market as a mechanism for ordering society.
In this book Conrad Waligorski analyzes the political content of the conservative economists’ arguments. In so doing, he illuminates the political, economic, and philosophical ideas behind and justification for the laissez-faire policy—the reduced regulation, intervention, and welfare favored by conservative governments in the United States, Canada, and Britain.
