This resource offers culturally responsive processes and concrete tools to address disproportionality and create more equitable schools. The authors draw on their work with school districts to demonstrate how using a theory of change can address disproportionate outcomes of special education placement and exclusionary discipline for students of colour. Educational institutions can use this application guide to build educators' capacities so that they respond better to the needs of racially, culturally, and linguistically marginalized students, families, and communities. The book includes chapters dedicated to the process of an equity audit to identify and tackle the root causes of disproportionalities; approaches for partnering with young people toward creating an environment every student deserves; and the critical self-reflective work that is foundational to shift the experiences and outcomes of Black, Latinx, Indigenous, multilingual learners, and students with an IEP, as well as students with intersecting identities. Use Dismantling Disproportionality in Practice to guide your work with district and school leaders and staff, teachers, families, and youth.

Автор: Anne Whitehead Название: Relating Suicide: A Personal and Critical Perspective ISBN: 1350192163 ISBN-13(EAN): 9781350192164 Издательство: Bloomsbury Academic Рейтинг: Цена: 3082.00 р. Наличие на складе: Есть у поставщика Поставка под заказ.
Описание: Writing against the prevailing narrativization of suicide in terms of why it happened, Whitehead turns instead to the questions of when, how, and where, calling attention to suicide’s materiality as well as its materialization. By turns provocative and deeply affecting, this book brings suicide into conversation with the critical medical humanities, extending beyond individual pathology and the medical institution to think about subjective and social perspectives, and to open up the various sites, scenes and interactions with which suicide is associated.Suicide is related forward from the point of death, rather than taking a retrospective view. Combining critical and textual analysis with personal reflection based on her own experience of her sister’s suicide, Whitehead examines the days, months, and years following a death by suicide. This pivoting of attention to what happens in the wake of suicide brings to light the often-surprising ways in which suicide is woven into the everyday places that we inhabit, and in which it is related to all of us, albeit with varying degrees of proximity and kinship.

Описание:
Romanticism is a worldview that finds expression over a whole range of cultural fields—not only in literature and art but in philosophy, theology, political theory, and social movements. In Romanticism Against the Tide of Modernity Michael Löwy and Robert Sayre formulate a theory that defines romanticism as a cultural protest against modern bourgeois industrial civilization and work to reveal the unity that underlies the extraordinary diversity of romanticism from the eighteenth to the twenty-first century. After critiquing previous conceptions of romanticism and discussing its first European manifestations, Löwy and Sayre propose a typology of the sociopolitical positions held by romantic writers-from “restitutionist” to various revolutionary/utopian forms. In subsequent chapters, they give extended treatment to writers as diverse as Coleridge and Ruskin, Charles Peguy, Ernst Bloch and Christa Wolf. Among other topics, they discuss the complex relationship between Marxism and romanticism before closing with a reflection on more contemporary manifestations of romanticism (for example, surrealism, the events of May 1968, and the ecological movement) as well as its future. Students and scholars of literature, humanities, social sciences, and cultural studies will be interested in this elegant and thoroughly original book.
