Описание:
In Praise Him While You Wait, Dr. Brenda Jefferson shares key insights on how praise anchors you in turbulent waters, restores your hope, and grants you peace in the midst of any storm. As you intentionally praise, God will remind you of His promises and purpose for your life. Waiting can be one of the most frustrating and daunting this you'll ever do; and yet everything meaningful you'll ever attain will require it.
So, what do you do while you are waiting?
How do you remain hopeful about your future while seeming stagnant in the present?
The answer is simple yet profound: YOU PRAISE.
WHY AM I STRUGGLING? As much as you might like the sun to always shine, it is inevitable that at times, the rain will fall. So often, people want to get to the prize, but they rarely get excited about the struggle. Whenever a person sets out to achieve anything of consequence in their life, there is often some sort of struggle attached to it. Are you willing to endure whatever is necessary to achieve your dream? Is your faith strong enough to stand the test of time and to face any obstacle that might come your way? As Dr. Brenda Jefferson so eloquently explains in Praise Him While You Wait, God can do anything but fail. "In all this you greatly rejoice, though now for a little while you may have had to suffer grief in all kinds of trials. These have come so that the proven genuineness of your faith-of greater worth than gold, which perishes even though refined by fire-may result in praise, glory and honor when Jesus Christ is revealed," (New International Version, 1 Pet. 1.6-7).
Understand that suffering is a fixed pattern to promote the mission of Christ, and to bring glory to His name. God's imagination is creative and ingenious. He is boundless and limitless. He is clever; inventive in all of His ways and methods He chooses to bless us. The power of God is exceptional. Yet, in order for it to be fruitful in our lives, we must trust Him to bring us through our circumstances and to help us.
My prayer for you taking up this devotional sketchpad is that you may use it as a working platform to launch and deepen your spiritual and artistic career. Studying, then illustrating scripture as a Creative, will open a totally new perspective on age-old words, giving you an incredible freshness in your work and in your life. Remember, "In the beginning, God created" (Genesis 1:1).
Raising Children with Your Heavenly Father encourages parents to plant spiritual seeds in the hearts of their children from birth. With time, those spiritual seeds (Scripture, Bible stories, spiritual songs) grow and mature, producing godly children who know right from wrong and live exemplary lives. Pray that those children will give the next generation a strong, spiritual heritage as well.
When parents tell their children that God wants them to treat others as they would like to be treated, children are more prone to hear and obey. The name of God has clout with children, who innately revere God. When they choose to obey their parents or other adults, they are actually obeying God's fifth commandment to "honor your father and your mother." All children need to know and attempt to keep the Ten Commandments and live by God's many teachings found in the Bible.

The Bible Year
Reading the Bible daily is life-changing. It impacts attitude, gives us insight, calls out our best inclinations, and helps us make good decisions. We literally encounter God in the revelation of scripture. The problem is not
if
we should read the Bible, but
how
to keep the promise we have made to make it a habit. Margrey deVega offers us a way to accomplish our goal. Short readings with a devotional guide that help us understand the material and consider what the text is saying to our lives will make this a perfect fit as you let the bible speak to your life. - Tom Berlin, Lead Pastor, Floris UMC and author of
Courage: Jesus and the Call to Brave Faith
Most of us honor the Bible, but few of us have actually read it...all of it! If we try, we often give up somewhere in Leviticus.
The Bible Year
challenges individuals, small groups and entire congregations to read the Bible - all of it! - in one year. It's the resource we need to open our minds, stretch our imaginations, and inspire our hearts as the same Holy Spirit who inspired the written word enables it to become the living Word in our lives. Take the challenge! You'll be glad you did! - James Harnish, Author of
A Disciple's Path
When it comes to read-through-the-Bible-in-a-year programs,
The Bible Year
is a game changer. Packed with devotionals, discussion guides, and resources for pastors, this beautifully written book makes journeying through Scripture less daunting and more rewarding. It's the perfect companion for those who wish to read through the Bible for the first time or those seek to go deeper in their study of Scripture together with others. - Ryan P. Bonfiglio, Director of the Candler Foundry and Assistant Professor of Old Testament, Candler Theological Seminary With a pastor's devotion to God and the people he serves, deVega has structured a truly helpful guide for reading the Bible in the span of a year. The thoughtful format is well designed to encourage steady progress in reading, and provoke thoughtful reflection. Brief section summaries allow the reader to stay on top of the larger story line, and thoughtful questions and blank spaces support a meditative encounter.
Kierkegaard’s religious discourses provide extended reflections on the Biblical text, and this book explores Kierkegaard’s hermeneutical project as a form of theological interpretation in the service of religious upbuilding. Comparing Kierkegaard’s metaphorical view of Scriptural language with Ricoeur’s theory of metaphor and second-order reference, and comparing Kierkegaard’s movement from "ordinary" to "actual" reading with the Medieval movement from literal to spiritual reading of Scripture, Storer argues that Kierkegaard’s project of upbuilding may be best classified as a form of tropological reading of Scripture in which appropriation opens the meaning of the text as the reader is remade into the image of God.
Through the lens of Kierkegaard’s use of Scripture, the book further explores theological and rhetorical development of the discourses, focusing on Kierkegaard’s move from general religious upbuilding to specifically Christian upbuilding, Kierkegaard’s construction of new rhetorical strategies in the pursuit of a distinctly Christian communication, and Kierkegaard’s increasing focus on Scriptural authority in the later discourses. The discourses, it is shown, exhibit a plurality of instructional and evangelistic aims, and these shape, and are shaped by, Kierkegaard’s use of Scripture. Storer concludes that Scripture is used so freely and imaginatively because Kierkegaard assumes the framework of historic creedal Christianity as his foundation for upbuilding, and then utilizes Scriptural texts to enable readers to imagine, and thereby to appropriate Christian truth.
Описание: Sometimes described as "people of the book," Christ-followers the world over have found Scripture to offer life-giving words. What is true of any number of Christian institutions is also true of Baylor University and of Baylor's Truett Seminary—various verses from the Bible, meant to upbuild the community, are strategically (and hopefully, tastefully!) displayed on their campuses. This valuable volume, replete with images, contains ten sermons preached by Truett Seminary faculty and staff on biblical passages explicitly cited or referenced at the school's Baugh-Reynolds campus in Waco, Texas. These messages illustrate how "the Word" can be skillfully employed to punctuate and animate a community's life together.
