Описание: This book provides all the knowledge needed to treat injuries to the pediatric extremities, spine, and pelvis. It aims to enable age-appropriate diagnosis and optimal treatment selection, with particular consideration of the current developmental age of an injured child. A general overview section presents the features of skeletal growth, growth plate fusion, and the concept of non-growth-damaging treatment of pediatric fractures. The well-structured specialized chapters detail the characteristics of individual injuries with corresponding case studies. Thus, the book offers a learning opportunity but can also be used as a practical daily reference to facilitate orientation. Three chapters focus on options for the correction of injuries that have healed poorly. The book offers exceptional value through:- * Classifications of fractures and injuries * Schematic drawings of typical fractures with developmental characteristics * Structured overview tables for all regions of injury with representation of the fracture types and their characteristic radiographs * Presentation of conservative and operative treatment options and illustration of all typical situations
Дополнительное описание: Part I. General.- Bone Growth and Bone Healing.- Types of Injuries.- Fracture Classification.- Radiological Diagnostics.- Conservative Principles.- Operative Principles.- Specific Injuries (vascular, neurological.- General Therapeutic Principles.- Part II

Описание: The calcified tissues have fundamental functions in the biology of organisms, not only because their strength, solidity, and elasticity permit movement and mechanical activities, and protect soft tissues against traumatic forces, but also on account of their role in mineral homeostasis. For this reason, extensive investigation in the last 30 years has provided much to explain the complex chemical and physical processes occurring in cells and matrices composing the skeleton, and their alterations in pathological conditions. The use of ultrastructural methods such as immunocytochemistry, scanning and transmission electron microscopy, cytoautoradiography, freeze/fracture etching, high voltage, etc.

has proven to be of great value when applied to cells and matrix components of bone and cartilage, in spite of the technical difficulties due to the hardness of these tissues. However, available information on this subject is disseminated in a variety of scientific and medical articles. This volume is an attempt to collect together the most significant data on the ultrastructure of cartilage and bone in normalcy and pathology.

Obviously, it cannot be a complete report of all these data, its principal aim being that of: a) giving a comprehensive statement of the results concerning the basic structures common to these tissues, especially collagen fibrils, noncollagenous proteins, and proteoglycans, and their relationships with the mineral substance (for which another volume of this series can also be consulted; see Ruggeri A. , Motta P. M.

Radiographic Atlas of Skeletal Maturation

DVD included

Nearly 2,300 images provide the reference
standard for normal skeletal maturation
at every developmental stage

When dealing with the maturing skeleton and its many complex growth alterations, physicians are constantly faced with the question, Is this image normal? The Radiographic Atlas of Skeletal Maturation succinctly answers that question by providing a comprehensive set of male and female reference images for every age and body part. This allows physicians to quickly hone in on normal ranges for the specific case they
are reviewing, which is particularly useful when called upon to read a pediatric skeletal radiograph in the emergency room or while on call.

Special Features:
Nearly 2,300 high-quality images that provide instant reference to normal views of the skeleton at every developmental milestoneavailable in both the text and accompanying DVD
Multiple projections at every age, sex, and body part combination so that the user can match the reference points in the book to the case at hand and arrive at a solid clinical interpretation (e.g., Is the small fragment of bone observed in a 7-year-old boy with an acute elbow injury a fracture or a normal developing ossification center?)
Practical text layout organized by gender and body part that provides quick access to images of normal development at any given age
A software virtual skeletal survey demonstrates images of younger and older individuals and crystallizes the subtle variations in growth patterns
Powerful software package with advanced image enhancement tools allows optimization of atlas image details for greater clarity. Compatible with numerous image formats (including DICOM) allowing viewing and editing of outside images
Convenient growth charts in the book and DVD for reference

This unique resource, with its vast collection of print and DVD images of normal progressive skeletal development, gives physicians the full range of comparative information they need to interpret pediatric skeletal radiographs in any clinical setting. It is the reference standard for radiologists, pediatricians, orthopedists, emergency room physicians, internists, rehabilitation physicians, and training physicians who are called upon to review a pediatric radiograph and confi dently make a diagnosis.

Описание:

A key to being confident in the evaluation of skeletal trauma imaging is to rely on the identification of mechanism-specific traumatic features. Indeed, for each mechanism of injury applied to a particular part of the skeleton, the latter can only present predefined traumatic injuries: this is a pattern of injuries.

The recognition of such a pattern of imaging allows the reader to determine the injuring mechanism and look for damages of lesser expression (or even invisible damages) that are common to the identified mechanism. In becoming more familiar with those mechanisms, the readers can deal with trauma imaging more efficiently and directly focus on findings relevant for further management.

Skeletal Trauma: A Mechanism-Based Approach of Imaging aims to combine the knowledge of both radiologists and surgeons to propose a mechanism-based approach to imaging in skeletal trauma. Along 15 chapters covering every part of the skeleton, with more than 900 figures, this book reviews the anatomy, standard radiologic views, and imaging findings of skeletal trauma. Over 200 original schemas invite the reader to understand the imaging features and determine the injuring mechanism.

Описание: Post-mortem computed tomography (PMCT) is increasingly used in forensic pathology practice in many jurisdictions. Such imaging has expanded the capacity to evaluate skeletal trauma improving the visualisation, documentation and presentation of forensic findings. Typically when deceased persons are located and exhibit evidence of trauma, forensic pathologist, anthropologists and radiologists base their interpretations of the mechanism of trauma on their experience and understanding of the biomechanics of fractures as well as recognisable patterns of injury. In order to augment this process, An Atlas of Forensic Skeletal Trauma presents a range of de-identified adult and child skeletal trauma cases that occur in medico-legal contexts where the cause of death and mechanism of trauma are recorded. An Atlas of Forensic Skeletal Trauma includes comprehensive photographs and PMCT images as well as descriptive text.
