Описание:
This volume represents an inter-disciplinary discussion of some fundamental categories of convergence and divergence, focusing in particular on issues of both social integration and devolution related to ethnos as the space of identity, and demos as the space of polity. The aims of the book are to assess past developments within crucial parts of Central Europe where both conflict and coexistence potentials seem to best represent the actual “unity in diversity” managing dilemma in the continent; to provide an analysis of current approaches to minority protection, language planning, spatial and social cross-border and inter-cultural policies; and to develop an evaluation of the future trends and opportunities for co-operation and re-integration within a local and broader operational context.

A love letter to sisterhood, Frank Sinatra, late-in-life romance, and the enduring ties of family. The book's narrator calls to mind a Boston-Irish Olive Kitteridge, as peppery as she is big-hearted.--Sally Koslow, author of The Widow Waltz and The Late, Lamented Molly Marx
Mimi Malloy was born into an Irish-Catholic brood of seven, and she has done her best to raise six daughters of her own. Now they're grown, and Mimi cherishes the comforts of her new life: Frank Sinatra on her stereo, walks with her super, Duffy, and spare time that is finally hers to spend. Sure, her eldest worries about her memory lapses, and Mimi's surviving sisters, who love to gossip, question her indifference to the past. As far as Mimi is concerned, she's entitled to enjoy the present--and that includes the occasional Manhattan. But when she stumbles upon a long-lost pendant of her mother's, recollections of a shocking and painful childhood begin to surface. With the help of her siblings and her daughters, Mimi must find the courage to confront her troubled history--and discover that the stories that refuse to be forgotten are the ones she ought to treasure most. A moving, funny masterpiece about love, memory, and the family ties we sometimes need to untangle (Caroline Leavitt), Mimi Malloy, At Last is an unforgettable novel, alive with hope, unexpected romance, and the magic of hard-earned insight.
Out of Oakland offers a wonderful case study in the possibilities and limitations of transnational organizing. ? Diplomatic History
In Out of Oakland, Sean L. Malloy explores the evolving internationalism of the Black Panther Party (BPP); the continuing exile of former members, including Assata Shakur, in Cuba is testament to the lasting nature of the international bonds that were forged during the party's heyday. Founded in Oakland, California, in October 1966 by Huey P. Newton and Bobby Seale, the BPP began with no more than a dozen members. Focused on local issues, most notably police brutality, the Panthers patrolled their West Oakland neighborhood armed with shotguns and law books. Within a few years, the BPP had expanded its operations into a global confrontation with what Minister of Information Eldridge Cleaver dubbed "the international pig power structure."
Malloy traces the shifting intersections between the black freedom struggle in the United States, Third World anticolonialism, and the Cold War. By the early 1970s, the Panthers had chapters across the United States as well as an international section headquartered in Algeria and support groups and emulators as far afield as England, India, New Zealand, Israel, and Sweden. The international section served as an official embassy for the BPP and a beacon for American revolutionaries abroad, attracting figures ranging from Black Power skyjackers to fugitive LSD guru Timothy Leary. Engaging directly with the expanding Cold War, BPP representatives cultivated alliances with the governments of Cuba, North Korea, China, North Vietnam, and the People's Republic of the Congo as well as European and Japanese militant groups and the Palestinian Liberation Organization.
In an epilogue, Malloy directly links the legacy of the BPP to contemporary questions raised by the Black Lives Matter movement.

Poverty and crime have reached crisis levels across the United States. Police brutality triggers protests, sparking riots that spawn even more violence. America is on the verge of full-blown race and class warfare.
Enter Operation Fresh Start, the brainchild of five men backed by very rich, very powerful individuals operating from the shadows.
The plan is simple and straightforward, and its aim is to curb-if not solve-the twin demons of poverty and crime: anyone between the ages of fifteen and forty will receive $15,000...provided they're willing to undergo voluntary sterilization.
Tyler Marshall IV, a brilliant attorney with a drinking problem and money issues, is tapped to head the operation. It's a great opportunity for him to both alleviate his need for cash and thumb his nose at a disapproving father.
But not everyone shares Marshall's enthusiasm for Operation Fresh Start-including his law firm's devoutly Catholic office manager and a powerful, sinister preacher. As intrigue and political posturing give way to suicide and murder, Marshall has to wonder if he's made the right choice.
Bold and controversial, Spare the Child offers a glimpse of a brave new world for those willing to step into the unknown.
