Описание: Education, Research, Health, Social Security and other “public goods” are organised by a mix of organisations, partly publicly-funded, partly private enterprises, partly public-private partnerships. The quality of the services relies greatly on the coordination and collaboration of these specialised organisations. How can cooperative relationships be built that guarantee trustful communication, binding decisions, and productive team-work? How can collaboration and competition be balanced? What are the differences between loose-coupled networks and tightly built collaborations and which type is the best solution for which tasks? How can mergers be managed as result of such collaboration? How must organisations prepare themselves and their internal structures to engage in trans-organisational collaboration?

This volume investigates the potential and challenges inherent in collaborative ventures. It is based on the authors’ rich experiences derived from consulting engagements and research projects in publicly-funded service organisations, non-profit organisations, public-private partnerships, and for-profit enterprises. The focus is on the role that management consultants can play in facilitating such collaborative ventures. Especially within the European context, this particular organisational form is becoming an increasingly common and powerful type of organisational system, and, as such, interventions that can ease and expedite their performance demand our attention and scholarship.

As the authors skillfully document and illustrate, cooperative relationships and networks function according to their own underlying logic, which is typically grounded in a spirit of collaboration and negotiation. As they argue, the resulting dynamic reflects a different perspective on building interpersonal, intergroup, and inter-organisational relationships, one that is removed from historic attempts at coordination through tight hierarchical control, which, as they underscore, is often “inflexible, bureaucratic, and incapable” of achieving the level of commitment and dedication necessary for success.

Collaborative ventures involve goals that must be jointly pursued, the partnerships must strive for levels commitment, involvement and motivation from their members that go well beyond those that hierarchical top-down structures typically provide. As the authors convincingly demonstrate, such high levels of collaboration do not emerge on their own. Mergers, acquisitions, joint ventures, partnerships, and strategic alliances are often launched with great fanfare, only to fall well short of pre-venture expectations. To truly work in practice, collaborative relationships and networks must be deliberately formed, developed, organised, and guided. Yet, as this volume amply illustrates, the underlying process is infused with a number of tensions – from the challenge of balancing collaboration and competition, to the appropriate mix of loose-tight controls and linkages, to ensuring commitment from members to the partnership while they maintain allegiance to their primary organisation.

This volume appeals to an international market. It is part of an effort to continue to learn across cultural perspectives, focusing on current thinking in the European context. The reader will become intrigued by the Austrian approach to organisational intervention, especially in the context of inter-organisational settings.

Описание: How do leadership tasks change as companies internationalise, and how can companies provide their leaders with developmental opportunities to prepare them for operating within this context? These are questions that are discussed in this book. The background is the growing number of multinational companies and the fact that leadership capacity and capabilities seem to be considered a major prerequisite for success. The book is the result of a common interest and cooperation between academics, researchers and consultants at the NHH (Norwegian School of Economics), the SNF (Centre for Applied Research at the NHH) and the AFF (Administrative Research Institute at the NHH), which constitute the NHH Group. This synthesis of insight from academics and consultants is a unique feature of this book. The book covers theories of leadership and organisation that are relevant to the context of multinational companies (MNCs), empirical findings on leadership and leadership development, and recommendations for designing leadership development initiatives for MNCs. The AFF Foundation was established in 1952 on the initiative of Professor Rolf Waaler at the NHH. Its mission statement reads: To promote insight into leadership and organisations through research and development, consulting and related activities. This can be achieved through the Foundations own activities, financial support or cooperation with other institutions or individuals. Today the foundation pursues its mission primarily through part ownership of the leadership institute AFF AS.
Описание: This book, written by an interdisciplinary team of authors, explores the transformation of organizations in today`s volatile, uncertain, and ambiguous (VUCA) world.
Throttle Up Brings Leadership Thought and Practice into the 21st Century
LEADERSHIP CAN BE anything one says it is--that is until a person or group has to do something complex with it. For the most part, leadership development remains an exercise of the abstract ostensibly possessed by the heroic or gifted few and disconnected from the multifaceted real-world challenges of everyday life. Throttle Up represents a departure from the traditional perspective in which leadership resides in the traits or behaviors of individuals in leadership roles. Instead, Throttle Up asserts that leadership in the 21st century is a practice to be learned-proving there is a difference between being a "leader" and "doing" leadership. The 21st-century world in which we live is filled with ambiguity, turbulence, rapid complex change, information overload, and the yearning of people to find meaning from the work they do. Therefore, leaders must be able to initiate and create an environment where people come to do their best work every day by melding diverse talent and individual abilities into collaborative, interdependent unified action. Most important, those involved in a leadership dynamic must increase their ability to do leadership together because in the 21st-century--LEADERSHIP IS WHAT PEOPLE DO TOGETHER
However, leaders of organizations are prone to repeat yesterday's news because they are looking for leadership in the wrong place. Throttle Up explains how and why traditional leadership development initiatives are going nowhere fast.
To accelerate a transition to 21st-century leadership practices, Throttle Up offers seven "how-to" methods to accelerate the impact of leadership training in organizations. These action-oriented 21st-century leadership practices include:
- How to complete a strategic thinking session - How to initiate and establish a leadership network - How to create storybooks to accelerate culture shifts - How to use the four frames to create compelling communications to support a culture shift (Wax-On, Wax-Off) - What five questions to ask when selecting a 21st-century leadership impact program - How to apply the LeadSimm(R) Leadership Impact Simulation Method - How to create and implement a pull learning education and evaluation strategy designed to assess the training impact on the organization To bring leadership into the 21st century, Throttle Up presents a model that assures accelerated learning can shift an organization's effectiveness in ways not found elsewhere.

Описание: The Leader-Member Exchange (LMX) model of leadership has shown that effective leader-follower relationships predict employee well-being and performance. Less research, however, addressed how diversity variables may affect the development of leader-member exchange and outcomes. This book moves the field forward by addressing the 21st century challenges of how diversity may impact the development of effective working relationships.Key trends in the workforce suggest that the impact of diverse employees will challenge a leader’s ability to develop effective working relationships with all direct reports. New frameworks are needed to understand how various groups such as women, Hispanics, African Americans, Millennials, LGBTQ, and persons with Autism Spectrum Disorder develop effective working relationships with their supervisors. This edited volume will bring together the top scholars in the field to address these segments of the workforce and offer practical advice for managers. This book will be used in college undergraduate and/or graduate level leadership classes. It might also be adopted for courses in managing diversity. Scholars will find the book a useful reference work. In addition, practicing managers will be interested in the implications of developing effective working relationships in diverse leader-member dyads.
