Publicada bajo el seud nimo de Paulino en el a o de 1879, A vista de p jaro cuenta la historia de un hombre que logra, convertido en un zopilote con ayuda de un hada, vencer la muerte y recorrer los pr ximos 200 a os, siendo testigo de los avances y progresos que la humanidad ha adquirido. Francisco Lainfiesta, fiel seguidor de los ideales morazanistas, abraz con vehemencia la causa de la revoluci n Liberal de 1871. Hombre de confianza de don Justo Rufino Barrios, fue el encargado de hacer grabar los billetes de papel moneda que pondr a en circulaci n el Banco Nacional de Guatemala, cuya impresi n formaba parte de la organizaci n econ mica que necesitaba el pa s e inaugurar la imprenta para instalar en Guatemala la Tipograf a "El Progreso" donde edit un peri dico con el mismo nombre. Con un fundamento anticlerical y un agudo sentido del humor, Lainfiesta explora en su novela los avances que la Revoluci n Liberal traer para su pueblo: La construcci n de ferrocarriles y carros el ctricos, el desarrollo de la aeron utica y las telecomunicaciones, el desarrollo del comercio justo, la unificaci n de las rep blicas sudamericanas en una sola y pr spera Federaci n, la construcci n de ciudades limpias y ordenadas en donde la educaci n y la salud son universales, el fin de la servidumbre para el indio y su incorporaci n al desarrollo de la naci n, la paz. Lainfiesta nos cuenta en su novela, que el progreso ser posible con la implementaci n de las reformas impuestas por el gobierno de Justo Rufino Barrios, del que l formaba parte y a quien le rinde un homenaje p stumo en su novela a manera de metaficci n. Indica con convicci n que la eliminaci n del oscurantismo y la explotaci n son posibles una vez que se derroten las fuerzas que mueven la iglesia y la oligarqu a terrateniente y se disuelvan los ej rcitos. Pero la obra de Lainfiesta va m s all de servir de propaganda a mejor estilo de Ivan Efremov en la Uni n Sovi tica estalinista, explora las leyes b sicas del cinemat grafo y advierte el horror de un sistema carcelario necrop lita y las consecuencias de la arrogancia humana y su fe ciega en el poder de la tecnolog a para vencer las leyes que rigen la naturaleza prediciendo, de alguna manera, la cat strofe del Titanic y el calentamiento global. A cien a os de su muerte en 1912, no nos cabe duda que Lainfiesta se equivoc en muchas de sus predicciones y an lisis del futuro, la regi n centroamericana evolucion de forma distinta a como l lo vio, a vista de p jaro, en su novela; o es quiz s, como en el jard n de Borges que se pierde en un laberinto de tiempos paralelos, que nos bifurcamos como naci n, en un tiempo distinto del que debi venir, despu s de la Revoluci n de 1871.
