Описание: This text presents statistical methods for studying causal effects and discusses how readers can assess such effects in simple randomized experiments.

Описание: In the past decades, research on strategic alliances -the class of interfirm arrangements to which long-term supply relationships belong- mushroomed. On the contrary, because of all these studies we now have some knowledge about the reasons why firms enter in alliances and why some alliances are more successful than others.
Описание: Cause-and-effect questions are the motivation for most research in the social, demographic, and health sciences. The counterfactual approach to causal analysis represents a unified framework for the prosecution of these questions. This second edition aims to convince more social scientists to take this approach when analyzing these core empirical questions.

Описание: Accounting and Causal Effects builds on econometric foundations to address challenging accounting issues. These include linear, discrete choice, and nonparametric regression models, characterized by microeconomic fundamentals and equilibrium reporting choices.
Описание: In this book the author presents a general formalism of nonequilibrium thermodynamics with complex information flows induced by interactions among multiple fluctuating systems.
The author has generalized stochastic thermodynamics with information by using a graphical theory. Characterizing nonequilibrium dynamics by causal networks, he has obtained a novel generalization of the second law of thermodynamics with information that is applicable to quite a broad class of stochastic dynamics such as information transfer between multiple Brownian particles, an autonomous biochemical reaction, and complex dynamics with a time-delayed feedback control. This study can produce further progress in the study of Maxwell’s demon for special cases.
As an application to these results, information transmission and thermodynamic dissipation in biochemical signal transduction are discussed. The findings presented here can open up a novel biophysical approach to understanding information processing in living systems.

Описание: As a hospital physician it is impossible to escape the notion that the difficult medical problems one encounters are also being confronted by other` physicians throughout the world. One serious consequence of these characteristics of the medical literature is that patients are largely overtreated.

Описание: Technical ideas may be solid or even groundbreaking, but if these ideas cannot be clearly communicated, reviewers of technical documents are likely to reject the argument for advancing these ideas. This book presents a scientific approach to writing that mirrors the sensibilities of scientists and engineers.

Описание: This investigation into causal modelling presents the rationale of causality; i.e. what guides reasoning in causal modeling. In contrast to the dominant paradigm, it argues that causal models are governed by a variation, rather than regularity or invariance.
